This beautiful dutch landscape by American artist, George Leonard Herdle. The watercolor on paper depicts a cloudy landscape of windmills lining a still stream. The work of art contains details such as a man standing near a walk-bridge, silhouettes of birds flying overhead, and a cottage in the mid ground. The watercolor on paper is matted and signed in the lower right corner. The 20th C. gold-colored frame is adorned with swirling floral motifs & is in great condition.
George Herdle was born in Rochester, NY and studied in Holland & Paris. Before 1913, George worked as an artist and taught at the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (now Rochester Institute of Technology). George Herdle was confirmed as Art Director of the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) in April 1914. 
Herdle exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia; the National Academy of Design, New York; and the New York Watercolor Society. He was President of the Rochester Art Club from 1902 until 1920.
