A late 1700's to early 1800's English earthenware, slipware comb decorated baking or loaf dish with pie crust edges.
used in English households for baking and tableware.
Much of the English slipware was made in the Staffordshire region.
English slipware pottery is characterized by its decoration using "slip," a liquid clay,
on lead-glazed earthenware. The techniques range from slip painting,
where slip is used like paint, to slip trailing, where it is dripped or piped onto the surface.
Some early English slipware employed sgraffito, a technique where designs are scratched
through the slip to reveal the contrasting clay body.
