showing an Italian architectural site.
popular during the Grand tour in the Victorian era.

Made of minute fragments of opaque colored glass or enamel
pulled into thin rods or threads
(filati) and sliced into tiny cubes or shapes
Hand fabricated with 18K gold, circa 1880s.

During the Tour, travelers would stop off at important Classical sites in Europe
to view Roman ruins and soak up the culture.

The Brooch has a Gold backing but it is unmarked.  Probably either 14 or 18k gold.
