A Beautiful Rare ea. 20th c. Miniature Portrait, Pendant & Chain of Roman Catholic Pope Pius XI with a Protective Box.
The 14k gold pendant with engraved bezel is decorated with natural seed pearls and small deep red natural rubies.
The Beautiful gold pendant with the hand painted portrait of Pope Pius XI is protected under glass.
The Gold design on the back of the pendant is lavishly pierced and engraved over a rich red fabric.
Pope Pius XI ruled the Catholic Church from 1922 - 1939
His papal motto: "The Peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ"
His work was to construct a new Christendom, based on World Peace
His Birth name was Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti
Born in 1857 and died in 1939 at the age of 81
He was Ordained by the Church in 1879
The 20th century chain is marked 14k.
The pendant has been tested as 15 - 16k gold.
The gold enclosure is most likely 19th c.
Condition:
The Gold Pendant & Chain are in Very Very Good condition.
The portrait shows some dirt & lint under the glass from age & use.
The drilled Pearls slide on a wire, one may be missing.
