A late 18th to early 19th c. English Georgian Oak Candle Box

Candle boxes played a large role in the pre-electric homes,
as candles were the main light source ensuring people went through a lot of them!
A large stock would be stored out of the way for use.
The slender design of this candle box denotes its use to store long, slender candles.

It has an arched top with a decorative design.
with a sloping hinged lid top.
It has a heart shaped opening so it can hang on a wall.
The Candle box is mostly made of oak
with the use of another type of wood
on the front of the box, with inlaid decorative elements.
Nail and glue construction with all original hinges.
