A 12" decorative Antique late Edo period, (or early Meiji )
Japanese lidded copper and gilt copper heating brazier.
This larger size would have been used to heat a large area of the home.
The interior of the brazier was filled with sand for insulation, charcoal pieces
were placed on the top of the sand for heat.
The pierced copper lid has a swirling leaf design,
and the body of this warming brazier is hand made and hand hammered copper
with two shaped copper handles on either side.
The entire piece is beautifully decorated with an impressed etched
flowing leaf design with gilt decoration throughout the piece.
Condition: Wonderful original age-related condition minor copper oxidation around the handles
the interior of the piece has residue from years of use.
