Biography
Edmond Francis "Ted" Woods was born in Ogden, Utah on February 18, 1905. He studied under LeConte Stewart at the University of Utah. He moved to San Diego, California in 1926 were he spent time studying under Maurice Braun. He continued his studies in Los Angeles at the Otis Art Institute and the Chouinard Art Institute. Upon returning to the San Diego area he settled in Chula Vista.
Woods was a student of the Southwestern Native American cultures. He is well known for his portrayals of Navajo Indian children. He is also noted for his California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado landscape and harbor depictions. During his career he was a member of the La Jolla Art Association, San Diego Artist's Guild, Riverside Art Association, National City Art Association, and the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs. He exhibited at these venues as well. His works are held in the permanent collection of the Ford Motor Company.
Woods died in Chula Vista, California on July 31, 1990.
