We are offering a...
Beautiful French Chocolate Pot, in the empire style, dated to 1819
by the Parisian master goldsmith, Charles-Louis Doupré. The chocolate
pot sits on three stylized paw feet, which meet the body in an applied foliate design.
It has a wonderfully shaped ebony handle. The lid has a ribbed melon finial,
and a gadrooned rim. The spout is very distinct without a strainer,
meaning that it was used for chocolate.
The crest is of a crown over a shield with a rampant Lion flanked by two unicorns.
With a little research, this crest is an important or possibly royal coat of arms.
If anyone can identify the crests please let us know.
This is a very rare and beautiful piece of .950 Silver, marked "L. Dupre" in a diamond
on both the underside of the pot and on the inside of the lid. The inside of the lid also has
the First standard Paris Old Man Vieillard silver hallmark. One either side of the handle
towards the lid are marks, one is again the Vieillard Old Man First standard hallmark,
and the other is the guaranty mark of "ceres" facing left.
Charles-Louis Dupré was a famous goldsmith in Paris at 5 rue des Coquilles,
specialist in small tableware. He registered his mark on August 1, 1827.
