We are offering an original oil on canvas painting from 1840. It is unsigned (common for the region and time period), and appears to be from the Spanish Romanticism movement of the 19th century.
Provenance: This painting belonged to Adolfo López Mateos, the President of Mexico from 1958 to 1964. We acquired it from his daughter, Elena López Mateos who wrote the note "These items sold to Randy are items that belonged to my father, the Mexican ex President Adolfo López Mateos. The paintings and other items were gifted to my mother as wedding presents from my father, the president."
A tag on the back reads "Appraisal made by Dr. Cooke, National Gallery of Art, Spring 1970. Still life - Oval Oil on Canvas, 1840 Spanish. Good Quality, Darkened."
