This American Gorham sterling silver card case with chain is very rare, having provenance The case is marked "Sterling" and has the 1852-1865 Gorham silver mark on the rim. The silver case is engraved "Cinnie" on the front side of the piece. This was the child's tenth birthday present. Calling card cases were important. It was fashionable to present your calling card when you called on someone. This silver card case is large enough to hold modern standard business cards, and will still close.
