or Tapestry.
Stunning Gouache and Gilt Gold Leaf
Historically the original model or design for a tapestry or screen is referred to as the "cartoon".
It took the form of a painting—made on cloth or paper.
When the model or "Cartoon" was created for a planned tapestry it usually took on the same size as the planned tapestry.
The cartoon was not physically part of the completed piece and could be reused multiple times in order to make duplicates.
We believe we have a beautifully executed work on paper;
a 17th or early 18th century "cartoon" for a seven panel screen.
