19th C. Century Ship Painting of Schooner Charles A. Jones Cyrus S-Kent Master
Condition:
We are offering a stunning ship portrait of the American Schooner "Charles A. Jones" c. 1870's, sailing in a richly painted sea, with members of the crew on the deck. This ship painting is remarkably executed, with rich colors and definition. This painting is unsigned, however careful research shows striking similarities, and historical congruence with the Massachusetts Marine Painter, William Pierce Stubbs (1842-1909)
The plaque painted on the bottom of the composition reads:
"Schooner Charles A. Jones Cyrus S-Kent Master"
As written, the Captain of this schooner was Cyrus S. Kent.
Captain Cyrus S. Kent was a member of the Boston Maritime Society, and a prominent figure in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, along with his well-regarded seafaring family.
This painting has been professionally cleaned and laid on board
