We are offering a complete, full-sized "Grand In-8" edition of Jules Verne’s masterpiece of polar exploration, "Voyages et Aventures du Capitaine Hatteras." Unlike split volume versions, this early Hetzel printing includes both complete parts bound together into a singular text block.
This edition is from Circa 1873-1877 (Early Lifetime Grand In-8 Illustrated Edition) and has 150 illustrations and full-page engravings by Édouard Riou. This copy features the distinct Gauthier-Villars printer credit line at the bottom of page 467, helping securely date this artifact to the mid-1870s. The book is bound in a sturdy 19th-century French half-red leather binding (demi-reliure) with marbled boards, raised bands, fine gold spine tooling, and matching marbled endpapers.

Condition: This book is in fine age-related condition with wear from age. The leather spine and corners show scuffing, rubbing and some minor ears from shelf wear. The marbled paper on the covers shows visible surface scraping, scratching, and edge wear. Internally, the pages are structurally intact. The paper shows typical age-toning and moderate foxing (brown spotting) throughout. The first page of the table of contents in the back of the book has a large rip across the page that has been taped. The text is still legible. Pages 139-142 are loose inside the book.
