a modernist rosewood sculpture by Lily Landis
This stunning sculpture exemplifies the craftsmanship that Landis put into her work,
from the smooth surface of the wood to the delicate curves Landis has given the subject.
This sculpture came from the estate of Lily Landis who was a student of the
modernist artist Jose De Creeft, which is clearly evidenced by the similar styles
they share. Landis was born in New York City in 1918 and has received numerous
awards for her work, recognized from Audubon Artists, Amelia Peabody, Chicago
Institute of Fine Arts, and the William Proctor Institute National Sculpture Competition.
figure - 6 1/8" tall x approximately 3 1/4" wide
total height - 8 1/2"
base - 3 1/8" x 3 1/8"
It is in nice age related condition with a chip to the figure's foot. The sculpture has
come free from the mounting screw, slips on and off. However the sculpture sits
nicely on its base. The base has some minor scuffing throughout.
