A typed letter to Miss Ellen Anderson from the White House, 
signed by Mrs. Woodrow Wilson's Secretary Helen Woodrow Bones.
with a Mrs. Woodrow Wilson calling card and the handkerchief mentioned in the letter. 
all framed together behind glass. 
dated August 11th 1916.

Helen Woodrow Bones was the first cousin of President Woodrow Wilson 
and served as the private secretary for his first wife, Ellen Axson Wilson.
 Following Ellen Wilson's death in 1914, Bones acted as the White House hostess, 
or "surrogate First Lady," until Woodrow Wilson remarried in 1915. 
Helen Bones was the daughter of Marion Woodrow Bones, whose sister was Woodrow Wilson's mother. 
They had a close relationship throughout their lives,
 and Bones lived with the Wilsons in Princeton before they moved to the White House.
In 1916, Mrs. Woodrow Wilson was Edith Bolling Galt Wilson, 
who became the First Lady of the United States on December 18, 1915
, upon her marriage to President Woodrow Wilson.
