A signed lithographed; hand colored print colored by John Cameron "The Life of A Fireman: The Metropolitan System." The piece was created in 1866 in New York City. The piece was printed and published by Currier & Ives. The piece is signed in the lower right hand corner, "J. Cameron." The medium is lithograph with applied water color. The water color is applied to the blue uniforms, the red wheels and the yellow and red flames. Lithography originally used an image drawn with oil, fat, or wax onto the surface of a smooth, level lithographic limestone plate. The image shows a building on fire, the firemen and wagons, and clouds of billowing smoke. Under the cloud of smoke, the heroic firemen respond with haste as they move toward the flames. Approx.
